About This Spot

Stepping into Taqueria El Bosque feels like finding a little corner of Oaxaca right in the heart of Chicago. This unpretentious, cozy spot hums with the quiet joy of a neighborhood taqueria where the pace is unhurried but every detail speaks of tradition and care. The warmth of the wood accents and walls lined with Mexican art invite guests to settle in without a rush, making it a place for savoring both food and the company at your table.

The atmosphere is friendly and familiar, a welcoming refuge where the comforting aromas of slow-cooked meats and freshly toasted tortillas mingle with the faint spice of chiles and herbs. Here, the tlayuda—a crispy, generous tortilla layered with beans, melted cheese, and your choice of savory fillings—feels like a shared celebration of flavors and textures, almost like a Mexican pizza meant to be enjoyed slowly and with others. Portions are thoughtfully large, encouraging moments of sharing and discovery at the table.

What stands out is how the menu feels deeply connected to the rhythms of Oaxaca’s culinary heritage, offering dishes that carry stories without needing to shout for attention. From richly spiced stews to the delicate balance of a pambazo sandwich or a bowl layered with fresh ingredients, each bite invites a connection—a taste of hospitality that’s as authentic as the place itself.

Visitors often remark on the genuine care behind the food and the welcoming vibe that makes coming back feel like returning home. Whether you’re drawn by curiosity or by a craving for something deeply satisfying and heartfelt, Taqueria El Bosque offers an experience that lingers beyond the meal—a quiet discovery of Mexican flavors that feel both rooted and alive in a vibrant Chicago neighborhood.

Happy Birthday to me! My sweetie took me here for dinner. Ordered tlayudas with chorizo and a couple of Oaxacan tamales. Love the tamale with molé the most. But the real star is the tlayuda. Great crunch and the chorizo very delicious. For me, it's s little out of the way but so worth the drive.

A small hole in wall type of place with an out of this world flavor. The prices are reasonable and the portions are large and easy to share. They have vegetarian options as well. I will definitely be coming back.

Amazing! Great service. Great food. Big portions. The best burritos I have ever had. Those tlayudas are huge and super ricos. Beautiful atmosphere. Super clean bathrooms. We are definitely returning.

Tried the “Alambre” and was not disappointed. Beans and rice were excellent and the pieces of steak and bacon blended with the Oaxaca cheese was delicious. Great portions. My friend got the Oaxaca bowl and he enjoyed it. Will definitely come back.

This place specializes in tlayudas which are kind of like a Mexican pizza. They can be customized anyway you want but usually it’s layer of beans then a layer of cheese and meats on a crispy tortilla. I got one with half steak and half chorizo. I think the chorizo half was a bit better.

Even though we don't understand Spanish but we still get super delicious foods. Chinese People who can eat spicy foods should give it a try.
